What's up everybody..

I was hoping to get you all's opinion on me wearing a Gracie Fighter Gi Patch in a local tourney I have coming up? FyI I live is Wash DC and have only learned skills from Cesar through his DVD instructionals. One day I plan on flying on to train there for a week but books and tuition comes first =[ any feedback is greatly appreciated. Take care family

People wear stuff all the time promoting schools, styles, events, etc with which they have no first hand knowledge. Hey, at least you bought the DVD's! Just carry yourself in a professional way, i.e.- don't jump people during the tournament, no headbutts, no use of illegal drugs, etc. Officially, I have no authority to authorize any of this and don't know if authorization is needed! Good Luck!

I don't know about everyone else but I think it is disrespectful to wear the logo of a team your not part of. I don't go wearing Alliance logos on my gi because I like Marcelo Garcia. I earned by right to wear graciefighter!

Respect, Alintaousn. I dont want to come off like a poser or disgrace an academy I haven't trained at yet. On the other hand, its not that I'm a fan of the Diazs or Gil, DT, Jake, etc. (Though I am a fan) its moreso about trying to incorporate the things I've learned from the instructionals. Cesar is a great teacher, even in the virtual world (lol) and his vids helped me sure up my guard, top control and takedowns. I really like his jiu jitsu and it fits well with my style so I would want people to know that. I mean the nice lady let my BUY THEM ANYWAYS, RIGHT?!?!!!!!! Lol jokes aside. But, I definitely understand what you're saying and thank you for honesty. I'm still undecided on the matter but I dont think ill feel guilty either way. I'll be sure to leave that gi jacket at home when I fly out there lol.

Glamdring thanks for flip flopping on me who are you Obama?! Lol j/k take care

I guess this is why I don't post here any more.

Unbelievable question in my opinion. Put the patch on your sweat shirt man, but to wear it in a tournament on your Gi is like saying you trained with those guys. Dude, if you HAD trained there and were just a white belt your still just a "prospect". Earn your patch.....Earn your belts.

If I just happened by and saw you competing with that patch on your Gi and learned your story, Id tear it off your Gi. What are you thinking?

When I see people wearing military rank insignias I feel the same way but I'm not going to lay my hands on people because of it. Don't be a Jiu-Jitsu nazi just 'cuz you can!

I would think unless you physically train with whatever certain team your are wanting to represent, you don't wear their logo. I used to watch Thomas Hearns box when I was growing up. I'm not going to try and claim Kronk Gym. My worthless opinion is don't wear it.

You're right Mike! However, even people as awesome as Monte shouldn't be talking about ripping patches off peoples clothing, though he was probably just making a point.

Mike I think the only thing cooler than being from the Graciefighter gym is if you were one of those guys that came up training in the Kronk Gym, that was an amazing place :]

Relax Glamdring you would be surprised how compliant people are when you speak to and explain things to them. Its pretty easy to persuade a guy to hand you his Gi and I doubt I would get a complaint. Confronted he would likely tear it off himself because it was such a dumb idea. Dumb as it is I also doubt there would be a fight over it.

Don't whine and cry about shit. If your right about something speak with some authority. The most powerful people in the world are those who can persuade others. Try and fight that?

Earn your stripes. I earned mine. Give Monte his respect; he's earned it over and over, the old school way through blood and sweat. I busted my balls to earn the ability to represent. We aren’t here trying to advertise a logo like NIKE. Train hard and represent your gym that you bust your ass for.

I don't see any disrespect in wearing it because by wearing it you're showing admiration.

However, I wouldn't wear it simply because you haven't trained under him in person.  It should be a reward earned by time, effort and loyalty … not just because the patch can be bought.
